Cultural Life of International Students

While studying away from home, international students do not forget about the major holidays, including days of independence, of their home countries. Here, for example, young people from Sierra Leone who are studying at the Ivan Horbachevsky Ternopil State Medical University organize celebrations for their countrymen. International students present their national dances, organize fancy shows.

Leisure of the international students is well organized at the university. Despite of the high demands and complexity of the educational process and study materials, international students make their lives very interesting. They gladly play sports, organize football tournaments, cricket tournaments, compete in badminton, and the winners are awarded with trophy cups and other prizes. During the holidays and on the weekends international students travel with satisfaction around different picturesque corners of Ukraine.

For example, at the end of the spring semester of the academic year 2014/2015, eight students of Ternopil State Medical University visited Vinnytsia and Uman. Teachers of the university travel with them and help them to communicate with local residents while translating during the tour. During this trip students liked Sophia Park the most. Our travelers were lucky with the weather – and they were able to fully enjoy the landscapes and monumental sights.

International students also actively organize amateur performances. For example, a charity festival called “Evening of International Cultural Exchange 2009” was organized by our students on March 28, 2009, in the largest concert hall of Ternopil – Palace of Culture “Berezil” “. This charity concert became a unique event of this kind held in Ternopil for the first time. It was initiated and carried out by international students of TSMU. Mayor of Ternopil, Ambassador of Malaysia to Ukraine, director of International Education Ministry of Education of Ukraine and other officials came to this concert. All funds collected during the preparation and conduct of the festival were transferred to the regional specialized orphanage “Little Baby”.
